State Power Investment Corporation (SPIC) Assistant General-Manager Guo Hongbo and his entourage inspected Wuling’s poverty alleviation work at Liren Village, Wugang, on April 22, 2019. He learned about the development of the abelmoschus manihot processing plant, village road, and irrigation ditches, which are built with Wuling’s financial support. He also visited the lower-income families, and talked with the village administers, poverty alleviation staff, lower-income family and villager representatives. He spoke highly of Wuling’s efforts in the abelmoschus manihot processing plant project, and the poverty alleviation staff’s performance and hard work.
Wuling has conscientiously fulfilled its social responsibility over the past decades. It carried out the “Azalea” campaign to help the students in need, and made donations to flood-stricken areas. Since 2015, Wuling began to send staff to assist poverty alleviation work in villages. Yuping Village in Wugang City, Wuling’s poverty alleviation target, has been lifted out of poverty in 2016, one year ahead of schedule. Wuling started to assist Liren Village in Wugang in March, 2018. The poverty alleviation team put the poverty-alleviation policies in place from the respects of industry, education, medical care, housing, and employment according to local conditions. As of now, Liren Village has eradicated poverty as a whole. The team raised 5.5 million yuan for the village, and built 3100-meter canals, 1700-meter road, and rural tourism facilities here. Wuling invested to build an abelmoschus manihot processing plant, with a plantation of 600 mu (about 40 ha.). The plant can also produce dehydrated vegetables, such as bamboo shoots, green beans, and cucumbers. It created 40 jobs for villagers, and increased the village’s total income by two million yuan, which has contributed to Liren Village’s stability, and lifted villagers out of poverty and led them to a comfortable life.
For the coming two years, Wuling’s poverty alleviation team will focus on building a beautiful countryside, and realizing rural revitalization. The team will strive to enhance the village’s cultural-ethical progress, and integrate the benefits of lands, idle workforce, and processing plants, in a bid to achieve mutual support of the collective industries and infrastructure operation, and win the tough battle against poverty.
